Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass

Please follow this link to a recent concert review at Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough. Review: Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass

A “compact” (5-piece) versatile brass ensemble with the prime objective of providing first-class musical entertainment to local communities in local venues.

The ensemble was formed in December 2004 by founder members Tim and Craig, partly as a result of work commitments preventing them from continuing to play with traditional brass bands, but mainly to try something new and challenging.  20 years on it was a definitely the right decision!

The name “Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass” was chosen as members lived near either end and on route along the Yorkshire Wolds Way, and the group rehearse in the heart of North Yorkshire.  The choice of the word “Versatile” is very deliberate. This describes the group’s attitude towards the style of music (classical, jazz, popular, rock, etc.), concert types and other special projects undertaken. Members of the ensemble have played with some of the top brass bands and orchestras in the UK and all are established soloists in their own right. Individually they have played all over the world and performed in some of the top venues in the UK (including over 20 Royal Albert Hall performances).

Expect a unique concert with top class music, entertainment and humour.

Craig Gaskell & Richard Wood – Cornets, Mark Sykes – French horn, Tony Turner – Trombone , Tim Priestley – Tuba
